UN begins organising thematic leadership for AI governance summit
The United Nations is inviting governments and stakeholders to help lead thematic discussions at its July 2026 Global Dialogue on AI Governance in Geneva.
The United Nations has launched a call for member states and stakeholders to express interest in co-chairing discussions during the first Global Dialogue on AI Governance, scheduled for 6–7 July 2026 in Geneva.
The meeting will take place alongside the AI for Good Global Summit 2026 and is being organised under UN General Assembly resolution 79/325.
According to the announcement, discussions will be structured around four broad themes. These include the societal and economic implications of AI, digital divides and capacity-building, interoperability between governance approaches, and human rights issues such as transparency, accountability, and human oversight.
The format reflects a multistakeholder governance model. Each thematic session is expected to be jointly chaired by one government representative and one stakeholder representative drawn from sectors such as academia, civil society, or industry.
The co-chairing process is intended to shape how discussions are organised and moderated. Selected participants will help facilitate exchanges, contribute to agenda development, and support balanced participation across regions and stakeholder groups.
