UN launches Digital Cooperation Portal to support global coordination on the digital agenda

The United Nations has launched the Digital Cooperation Portal, a new online platform intended to improve coordination across global digital initiatives and support implementation of the Global Digital Compact. The portal went live on 4 December and is designed as a central reference point for activities related to digital inclusion, AI governance, digital infrastructure, and the protection of human rights online.

Developed by the UN Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies, with contributions from UN Trade and Development and the UN Industrial Development Organization, the portal compiles cooperation efforts across institutions, regions and thematic areas. UNCTAD helped design the methodology for mapping initiatives and co-led thematic work on the inclusive digital economy, which forms part of the portal’s structure.

The platform allows partners to align efforts with broader UN frameworks, including the Pact for the Future, the sustainable development goals, and the World Summit on the Information Society. It is intended to improve visibility of ongoing work, identify overlaps and gaps, and encourage strategic collaboration. The portal uses artificial intelligence tools to link related activities and highlight opportunities for joint action.

Accessible to governments, UN bodies, civil society, researchers and businesses, the portal invites users worldwide to contribute information and share initiatives. By making data about digital cooperation publicly available, the UN aims to strengthen transparency and support more coherent global action to close digital divides and advance rights-based digital development.
