ICANN names 40 fellows for ICANN87 Annual General Meeting in Bali
ICANN has selected 40 fellows from 34 countries to take part in ICANN87, supporting broader participation in internet governance and Domain Name System policy work.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers has announced the 40 candidates selected for its Fellowship Program at the ICANN87 Annual General Meeting.
ICANN87 will take place from 17 to 22 October 2026 in Bali, Indonesia. The selected fellows come from 34 countries and represent civil society, government, academia, business, technical groups, security communities, end-user organisations, and country code top-level domain operators.
The Fellowship Program is intended to help people from underserved and underrepresented communities take part in ICANN’s work. This includes policy development, DNS operations, and issues linked to the security and stability of the global internet.
The programme supports ICANN’s multistakeholder model. This means that governments, companies, technical experts, civil society, and users can all participate in discussions that shape internet naming policy.
ICANN said it received 763 applications for the ICANN87 Fellowship Program.
Among the selected fellows, Cliff Agaba Mutegeki from Uganda has been named recipient of the Paul Muchene Fellow Award. The award honours Paul Muchene, an ICANN Fellow and ICANN staff member who died in August 2022.
If ICANN87 is held virtually, the Fellowship Program will also take place online.
