EU and Morocco launch digital dialogue to strengthen cooperation

The European Commission and the Kingdom of Morocco have launched a new EU-Morocco Digital Dialogue aimed at strengthening cooperation in digital policy and technology.

The initiative focuses on areas such as AI, digital infrastructure, start-up support, and public digital services. It is intended to support the development of digital economies and improve coordination between the EU and Morocco.

The Dialogue was launched by Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, and Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Morocco’s Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform.

Key areas of cooperation include the development of secure digital networks, collaboration on AI research and computing infrastructure, and efforts to improve interoperability between EU and Moroccan digital systems, such as digital public services and digital identity tools.

The initiative also includes support for start-ups and innovation ecosystems. As part of the launch, both sides signed an administrative arrangement on AI to promote collaboration in research and development.

Initial steps under this cooperation include partnerships between European supercomputing centres and Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Morocco, which hosts a major computing facility.

The Digital Dialogue builds on broader EU-Morocco relations and aligns with regional initiatives such as the Pact for the Mediterranean, which aims to strengthen cooperation across the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean, including in the digital domain.
