EU and Armenia sign connectivity partnership with focus on digital infrastructure and security

The European Union and Armenia have signed a connectivity partnership at their first bilateral summit in Yerevan, marking a step towards deeper cooperation across infrastructure, digital development, and security.

The agreement covers areas such as transport, energy, and digital networks. In practical terms, this includes improving how data, services, and infrastructure connect across borders, which can support digital services, trade, and investment.

Alongside the partnership, the EU launched a call for investment projects involving companies from the EU, the European Economic Area, and Armenia. Initial projects are expected to focus on digital infrastructure, semiconductor-related skills, innovation ecosystems, and private sector development.

The summit also addressed broader cooperation on security and governance. This includes a working arrangement between the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) and Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as EU support measures aimed at strengthening national resilience.

The partnership builds on existing frameworks, including the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, and reflects a broader EU approach of combining economic cooperation with digital development and security coordination in neighbouring regions.
