High-level session: Enhancing Global South CSO Capacities in Internet Governance: Engaging, Scaling, and Trust-Building

During the East African Internet Governance Forum (EAIGF) 2025, held from 15 to 16 May in Nairobi, CADE, in collaboration with CIPESA and KICTANet, co-organised a high-level session titled ‘Enhancing Global South CSO Capacities in Internet Governance: Engaging, Scaling, and Trust-Building.’
The discussion gathered experts, policymakers, and civil society representatives to explore how organisations from the Global South can strengthen their participation in international internet governance processes. Participants exchanged practical experiences from engaging with global institutions such as ICANN, IETF, IGF and ITU, and discussed strategies for building trust, reinforcing advocacy, and promoting inclusive, rights-based digital governance.
Speakers Angela Minayo (Article 19), Muthuri Kathure (Mozilla Foundation), June Okal (ICANN), and Florence Awino (KICTANet) shared insights on how civil society can navigate complex policy arenas and make its voice heard in global decision-making. The session was moderated by Patricia Ainembambazi (CIPESA), who guided a rich discussion on collaboration, scaling engagement, and strengthening regional advocacy networks.
