W3C updates authorised French translations of WCAG 2.2 and 2.1

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has published updated authorised French translations of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 and 2.1. The translations were published on 22 September 2026, with Access42 serving as the lead translation organisation.

WCAG is a set of technical guidelines for making websites and digital content more accessible to people with disabilities. It provides recommendations for areas such as how users perceive, operate and navigate web content, as well as how content works across different devices and assistive technologies.

The updated translations cover WCAG 2.2, the latest version of the guidelines, and WCAG 2.1, which remains widely used in accessibility policies and implementation. Making the technical specifications available in French is intended to support organisations and practitioners that use the guidelines in French-speaking contexts.

The translations are part of W3C’s broader programme for authorised translations of its technical specifications. The Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) encourages authorised translations of WCAG 2.2 and other technical resources to facilitate their adoption across different languages and cultures.

W3C also maintains translations of other accessibility resources, including educational and non-technical materials. The organisation provides a process for developing authorised translations and lists available resources through its translation programme.
