ICANN reports progress on community continuous improvement programme
ICANN has published an update on the implementation of its Continuous Improvement Program (CIP), reporting that most participating community groups have begun activities aimed at strengthening their performance, accountability and organisational effectiveness.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has released an update on the implementation of its Continuous Improvement Program (CIP), an initiative designed to help the organisation’s community groups regularly assess and improve their operations.
The programme, launched in July 2025, provides a framework for ICANN’s Supporting Organizations, Advisory Committees and the Nominating Committee to review their performance, identify areas for improvement and implement changes over time. According to ICANN, six of the eight participating groups have started carrying out their planned activities, one has progressed to the programme’s second phase, one has postponed implementation due to limited capacity, and another is preparing to begin.
The update shows that participating groups are at different stages of the process. Some are developing assessment criteria and collecting baseline information, while others are already implementing improvements linked to their strategic priorities. Under ICANN’s framework, each group is expected to report on its progress at the end of each improvement cycle or at least every three years.

ICANN’s community is responsible for developing many of the policies and processes that support the operation of the global domain name system. The Continuous Improvement Program aims to ensure these groups regularly evaluate how they work, identify areas for improvement and adapt to changes in the internet ecosystem, helping to strengthen transparency, accountability and organisational effectiveness.
