Grok back online in Indonesia
Indonesia has reinstated access to the AI tool Grok after platform owner X committed to stronger compliance measures, but authorities warn that renewed violations could lead to another ban.
Indonesia has allowed the AI system Grok to operate again after previously blocking it over the circulation of sexualised images on the platform. The suspension, imposed last month, made Indonesia the first country to restrict access to the tool.
The Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs confirmed that the service has been restored on a conditional basis. According to officials, X provided a written commitment outlining specific steps to strengthen safeguards and ensure compliance with Indonesian law.
Authorities described the document as the beginning of a review process rather than the conclusion of oversight. Monitoring of the platform will continue, and regulators stated that access could be withdrawn immediately if new violations occur or if the agreed safeguards are not properly implemented.
The government emphasised that Indonesia’s standards on online safety remain in force and that failure to comply could result in renewed blocking.
