The document focuses on LLMs, a type of AI that can generate text, summaries, and code based on prompts. As these tools are increasingly used by engineers and contributors, the Advisory Board sets out guidance for their use in the development of web standards.

According to the Note, LLMs can support standards work in several ways. They can help summarise technical discussions, assist in drafting documents, generate code examples, and make complex material more accessible to contributors. This may lower barriers to participation and improve efficiency in collaborative processes.

At the same time, the document highlights limitations. LLM outputs may contain inaccuracies, outdated information, or fabricated content. For standards work, which relies on precision and consensus, such errors can introduce risks if content is used without verification.
