UN Secretary-General addresses the ‘dark side of the digital world’

In a speech before the UN General Assembly, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres spoke about the “four horsemen in our midst’ that pose a threat to the global future. Amongst the ‘four horsemen’ is the ‘dark side of the digital world’ which includes job displacement provoked by automation, misuse of cyberspace by terrorists, cybercrime, and the spread of fake news.  Guterres also touched upon the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), the proliferation of lethal autonomous weapons as well as the need to tackle growing digital fragmentation through cooperation between the private sector, civil society and governments.
