Turkish ISP blocks social media sites near Syrian border
According to a news report, social media websites Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and WhatsApp were restricted by Turkish authorities in “at least three cities in the southern part of the country for about 48 hours”. This occurrence happened in the wake of the attack launched by Turkey on Northern Syria with data collected by the civil society group Netblocks and monitored by WIRED. According to the report, the internet shutdowns was implemented by the partially government-owned Türk Telekoma, a phenomenon which is characteristic of the Turkish government who have “routinely blocked access to social media in parts of the country in recent years, usually in the wake of terrorist attacks, politically damaging leaks, or citizen protests”.
