Tech Global Institute backs civil-society input calling for rights-based approach in WSIS+20 process
The organisation notes that it will continue to work across global networks to support an inclusive, equitable and rights-driven digital future as WSIS+20 preparations continue.
Tech Global Institute (TGI) has announced its support for collective civil-society submissions to the WSIS+20 review, reinforcing calls for a digital-governance framework rooted in human rights, equity, and meaningful global participation.
The organisation contributed to joint inputs developed through two major civil-society coalitions — the Global Digital Justice Forum (GDJF) and the Global Digital Rights Coalition for WSIS (GDRC-WSIS). These submissions respond to the WSIS+20 Elements Paper, which will inform negotiations shaping the future of the World Summit on the Information Society agenda.
The GDJF submission takes aim at structural challenges within the global digital economy, including the dominance of major technology companies, data-extraction practices, and gaps in equitable connectivity. It argues that digital policy must be aligned with democratic governance, climate and social sustainability, and intersectional justice — particularly for communities most affected by digital exclusion and rights abuses.
The GDRC-WSIS submission, representing civil-society organisations from both the Global Majority and the Global North, emphasises the need to anchor the WSIS+20 process in international human-rights law. It calls for meaningful multistakeholder participation and digital-inclusion measures that ensure all communities can benefit from digital transformation, especially those historically marginalised in global policy spaces.
TGI says it fully endorses both submissions, framing them as essential contributions to future digital-governance frameworks. The institute states that WSIS+20 should strengthen accountability for governments and technology companies alike while reinforcing protections for fundamental rights in digital environments.
