President Trump Signs Executive Order to Advance AI Education
Early training in AI will demystify this technology and prepare America’s students to be confident participants in the AI-assisted workforce, propelling our nation to new heights of scientific and economic achievement.

President Donald J. Trump signed an executive order to create new educational and workforce development opportunities focused on artificial intelligence (AI). The move aims to foster early interest and expertise in AI to secure America’s leadership in this critical technology for generations to come.
The order underscores the profound impact AI is having on society and the urgency of equipping students with the skills needed to thrive in an AI-driven economy. It also recognises the vital role of educators, calling for enhanced training to both teach AI principles and integrate emerging technologies into the classroom. In parallel, it expands lifelong learning initiatives to ensure American workers remain competitive in an increasingly digital landscape.
To achieve these goals, the executive order establishes the White House Task Force on AI Education, chaired by the Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and composed of senior administration officials. The task force will oversee the launch of a Presidential AI Challenge, promote public-private partnerships to support K-12 AI education, and recommend the prioritisation of AI training initiatives through federal grant programs.
Additionally, the order directs the Secretary of Labour to expand AI-related apprenticeships and encourage the use of Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) funds for AI skill development. Collaboration between the Department of Labour, the Department of Education, and the National Science Foundation will support the creation of AI coursework and certification opportunities for high school students.
