Over 500 organisations call for increased EU funding for culture and media programme

More than 500 organisations across Europe’s cultural, media, and civil society sectors have called for increased funding for the AgoraEU programme in the European Union’s next multiannual budget.

AgoraEU is proposed as a funding instrument to support areas including culture, independent journalism, audiovisual media, and civil society organisations. According to the signatories, the programme currently represents around 0.43% of the overall EU budget.

The joint letter was coordinated by the Future of Europe Coalition, which includes organisations such as Civil Society Europe, Culture Action Europe, European Civic Forum, and European Federation of Journalists.

The organisations argue that increased financial support is needed in light of structural pressures affecting these sectors and the reduction of funding from other sources. They are calling on EU policymakers to support proposals in the European Parliament to expand the programme’s budget.
