Malaysia unveils Digital Action Plan 2030 to support AI Nation agenda
Malaysia has launched the Malaysia Digital Action Plan 2030, setting targets for digital economy growth, online public services, digital jobs and AI-led transformation.
Malaysia has unveiled the Malaysia Digital Action Plan 2030, a national implementation plan for the country’s next phase of digital transformation.
The plan, known as MD2030, was launched by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on 29 June 2026 in Putrajaya. It positions the Ministry of Digital as the lead ministry for the country’s ‘Towards an AI Nation 2030’ agenda.
MD2030 covers the period from 2026 to 2030. It aims to shift Malaysia from being mainly a user of digital technologies to becoming a producer of local digital innovation.
The plan sets several national targets. These include raising the digital economy’s contribution to 30% of GDP, creating 500,000 high-value jobs in the digital economy, generating RM4.5 billion in public-sector savings through government digitalisation, and making 95% of government services available online from end to end.
The blueprint is aligned with the Thirteenth Malaysia Plan and the MADANI Economy framework. It also updates the direction of the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint and the National Fourth Industrial Revolution Policy.
MD2030 is organised around seven strategic areas: government, economy, infrastructure, talent, society, trust and security, and innovation. These areas cover public service digitalisation, digital trade, connectivity, future skills, digital inclusion, data governance, cybersecurity and research commercialisation.
The Ministry of Digital will coordinate implementation with several agencies. These include the National AI Office, Jabatan Digital Negara and GovTech Malaysia, the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation, CyberSecurity Malaysia, MyDIGITAL Corporation and the Malaysia Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the launch showed Malaysia’s readiness to move from technology consumption to digital innovation production. He said the transformation should be built on trust, data security and strong governance.
The plan also links AI development to wider social and economic goals. It says Malaysia’s AI agenda should support better public services, stronger business competitiveness, digital inclusion and a workforce prepared for future digital jobs.
The government said MD2030 is intended to position Malaysia as a regional digital leader while ensuring that the benefits of the digital economy are shared more widely across society.
