LACNIC opens applications for 2026 R&D Ambassadors Program

The Latin American and Caribbean Internet Addresses Registry (LACNIC) has opened applications for the 2026 edition of its R&D Ambassadors Program, an initiative focused on strengthening internet infrastructure in the region.

The programme is designed to support collaboration between LACNIC and technical experts to deploy and promote key internet technologies. These technologies are essential for how the internet functions, even though they are not visible to most users.

Among the priorities are the deployment of IPv6, which expands the number of available internet addresses, and RPKI, a system used to improve the security of internet routing. The programme also supports tools such as DNSSEC, which helps verify that users are connecting to legitimate websites.

Participants are expected to contribute to technical development and knowledge sharing. This includes organising workshops, training sessions, and national-level activities to build local expertise, as well as supporting research related to internet infrastructure.

The programme will select up to three participants. Selected candidates will receive financial support of up to $2,000, along with opportunities to present their work at a regional LACNIC meeting and to build visibility within the technical community.

Applications are open until 29 May 2026.
