ICANN opens applications for 2026 leadership roles across its Board, PTI and community bodies
ICANN’s Nominating Committee has launched its 2026 call for candidates, inviting applications for leadership positions across the ICANN Board, Public Technical Identifiers, and several Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees, with submissions due by 18 February 2026.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has opened its annual call for leadership candidates, inviting individuals from around the world to apply for key positions across the organisation and within Public Technical Identifiers (PTI). The 2026 round, managed by ICANN’s Nominating Committee (NomCom), seeks candidates who can contribute to the governance, policy development, and technical coordination of the internet’s unique identifier systems.
Applications are open until 18 February 2026 at 23:59 UTC. The NomCom is tasked with selecting candidates who will join ICANN’s distributed leadership structure, which spans the Board of Directors, Supporting Organizations, and Advisory Committees.
The roles available in this cycle include:
• two seats on the ICANN Board of Directors
• one seat on the PTI Board of Directors
• two regional representatives to the At-Large Advisory Committee, one from Europe and one from North America
• one member of the Country Code Names Supporting Organization Council
• one member of the Generic Names Supporting Organization Council
Candidates chosen through the process will be expected to act in the global public interest, supporting ICANN’s mandate to maintain the stable and secure functioning of the internet’s naming and addressing systems. Fluency in English is required for all positions, while additional skills and time commitments differ by role.
Applications must be submitted through the secure online portal, and all materials will remain confidential. Incomplete applications submitted after the February deadline will not be considered. Following review, NomCom will create a shortlist before final selections are announced in August 2026. Appointees will take up their roles at the close of the ICANN87 Annual General Meeting in October 2026.
Successful candidates should anticipate regular virtual meetings and potential international travel, with reasonable expenses reimbursed. Only ICANN Board members may opt for compensation under existing Board resolutions. All other positions are voluntary.
More information on requirements for each role is available on the 2026 NomCom web page.
