ICANN Launches RST v2.0 for Evaluating gTLD Registry Service Providers
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has introduced Registry System Testing (RST) v2.0 to assess the technical capabilities of registry service providers (RSPs) participating in the upcoming New gTLD Program.

On 29 July 2025, ICANN launched Registry System Testing (RST) v2.0, a platform designed to verify whether registry operators (ROs) have the technical ability to manage a generic top-level domain (gTLD) reliably and securely. This updated version will play a central role in the New gTLD Program: Next Round Registry Service Provider Evaluation, requiring all RSPs to pass technical testing through RST v2.0. Applicants for new gTLDs must also designate RSPs that have passed this evaluation
RST v2.0 will also be used for Pre-Delegation Testing (PDT), a mandatory step before submitting a gTLD delegation request. Enhancements in the new version include faster processing via parallel test execution, reduced manual intervention, and a self-service capability. It also features an Operational Testing and Evaluation (OT&E) environment to help stakeholders test and refine their systems before formal evaluation.
ICANN invites community members to test the new OT&E environment and provide feedback. Access requests can be submitted via the Naming Services portal or by contacting globalsupport@icann.org.
