ICANN extends deadline for evaluator panels request for proposal for 2026 new gTLD programme
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has extended the deadline for proposals to supply expert evaluator panels for string similarity and variant string assessments in the 2026 round of the New Generic Top-Level Domains (gTLD) programme. Responses are now due by 18 February 2026.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has extended the submission deadline for its request for proposal (RFP) seeking provider(s) to deliver evaluation services for the 2026 round of the New Generic Top-Level Domains programme. The deadline has been moved to 18 February 2026 at 23:59 UTC. The 2026 round is expected to launch in April 2026.
The RFP covers two distinct functions within the application evaluation process: string similarity and variant strings. These assessments are intended to reduce the risk of user confusion and support the trust and usability of the Domain Name System (DNS). Vendors may apply to provide services for either one of the two areas or both.
Under the process, the selected provider(s) will assemble panels of experts to carry out evaluations, and will be expected to align their methodologies with ICANN policies and guidelines. ICANN also expects the chosen provider(s) to collaborate on developing evaluation guides to support consistent and repeatable decision-making across applications.
ICANN said combining both evaluation areas into a single RFP is intended to support coordination of timelines and vendor planning, particularly where expertise may overlap. The RFP is public, allowing any qualified vendor to participate.
Interested organisations are asked to email their indication of interest to ICANN, providing basic organisational and contact information. Formal submissions must be filed through ICANN’s sourcing tool by the updated deadline, with access to the tool available upon request through the same contact channel.
