Brazil proposes age verification and child monetisation restrictions in new bill
Bill No. 730/2026, introduced in Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies, would require platforms to implement age-verification systems aligned with national data protection law and restrict monetisation involving children under 14.
A new legislative proposal in Brazil seeks to introduce mandatory age verification requirements for digital platforms and to strengthen safeguards for children and adolescents online.
Bill No. 730/2026 has been submitted to the Chamber of Deputies and would require platforms operating in Brazil to implement age-verification mechanisms consistent with the country’s General Data Protection Law, Law No. 13.709/2018. The proposal emphasises principles such as data minimisation, pseudonymisation and limited data retention in the design of such systems.
In addition to age-verification requirements, the bill would prohibit direct or indirect monetisation of content by children under 14. For adolescents aged 14 to 18, remunerated artistic work conducted online would require prior judicial authorisation and be subject to specific safeguards.
If adopted, the proposal would establish baseline compliance obligations for platforms active in the Brazilian market, combining child protection measures with data protection standards under existing law.
