On 27 September 2024, during the Forum on Internet Freedom in Africa (FIFAfrica) in Dakar, Senegal, the CADE consortium co-hosted a session titled Strengthening Collaboration with African Policymakers. Organised by CIPESA and CIPE, the session gathered parliamentarians, digital rights advocates, civil society actors and academics to explore strategies for more inclusive digital policy-making on the continent.
Speakers discussed common barriers that limit civil society’s role in legislative processes, drew lessons from the Open Internet for Democracy initiative, and proposed practical tools for joint CSO–government collaboration. Topics included the impact of digital exclusion, ways to institutionalise participation, and the need for better coordination across sectors and countries.
