IETF 123 Madrid
The annual Internet Engineering Task Force meeting, IETF 117, will be held from 19 to 25 July 2025 in Madrid, Spain, with online participation also available. A key feature of the event will be the IETF Hackathon and IETF Codesprint, scheduled for the weekend of 19–20 July 2025. These sessions will offer participants the opportunity to collaborate on developing, testing, and improving software implementations of both current and emerging internet protocols. The focus will be on areas such as security, routing, and data transport, with the goal of identifying bugs, enhancing interoperability, and accelerating the deployment of robust technologies.
The IETF 123 meeting will combine formal discussions, technical workshops, and hands-on coding activities, encouraging collaboration between standards developers and software engineers. This format is intended to ensure that new protocols are not only clearly specified but also practical and reliable for real-world applications, supporting the continued growth and security of the internet.
Community engagement and knowledge sharing will also be central to IETF 123. Throughout the week, events will be held to help newcomers learn how to participate effectively. Hosted by Ericsson, the meeting is expected to attract a diverse global audience, reflecting the IETF’s open and inclusive model.
The IETF, an international standards organisation, will continue its work to develop open internet standards through open processes. Its community includes network designers, operators, vendors, and researchers, all working together to advance internet architecture and ensure the stable operation of the global network. The IETF’s technical work will take place in topic-based working groups, organised into several focus areas. The organisation holds three meetings each year.
