GNSO PDP on Latin Script Diacritics – Session #11

The eleventh meeting of ICANN’s Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) Latin Script Diacritics Policy Development Process (PDP) Working Group will take place on Wednesday, 2 July 2025, at 13:15 UTC, and will run for 75 minutes. This session will continue the group’s work on developing policy recommendations concerning the delegation of top-level domain names (TLDs) that include Latin-script characters with diacritics.

As part of the GNSO’s responsibility to create policies for generic TLDs, the working group is examining whether such names should be treated as distinct from or equivalent to their ASCII-only counterparts, and how this distinction may impact user experience, security, and registry operations. The meeting will include a review of current charter questions, a discussion of input gathered so far, and planning for upcoming work. Participants are encouraged to consult the Final Issue Report and relevant background materials in advance.
