Civil society’s role in internet governance spotlighted at IGF 2024

On 18 December 2024, during IGF 2024 in Riyadh, the CADE consortium hosted a workshop titled Empowering Civil Society: Bridging Gaps in Policy Influence. With close to 40 participants joining in person and online, the session explored how CSOs – especially from the Global South – can overcome structural barriers to engaging in global digital policy forums.

The discussion drew from CADE’s baseline studies and highlighted successful advocacy strategies from across Africa and Latin America. Speakers proposed new models for CSO engagement in multistakeholder processes and shared insights on reforming participation mechanisms in spaces such as ICANN, the ITU, and the UN IGF.
