CADE at RightsCon 2025: Strengthening civil society coordination for the WSIS+20 review

At RightsCon 2025 in Taipei, CADE partners convened civil society, government, and private sector actors to advance coordination and practical engagement around the WSIS+20 review process.

CADE participated in RightsCon 2025 with a dialogue meeting on 27 February, focused on multistakeholder engagement in the WSIS+20 review. The session was organised by the European Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ECNL), as part of CADE, in collaboration with Global Partners Digital (GPD). Designed as a hands-on workshop, this ENCL dialogue provided a practical space for civil society organisations to exchange knowledge, align priorities, and discuss coordinated approaches to the review process.

The ENCL dialogue session brought together 18 civil society organisations alongside government representatives from the UK, Canada, the Netherlands, and Denmark. Discussions centred on key WSIS+20 themes, pathways for effective participation, and opportunities for joint advocacy. As a result, participants contributed to the development of shared strategies and inputs to the Five-Point Plan for an Inclusive WSIS+20 Review, which has since been endorsed by more than 100 civil society organisations.

The dialogue also broadened civil society coordination by engaging organisations new to the WSIS process, including SMEX and Kictanet, while strengthening regional participation, particularly from Southeast Asia. Although participants brought differing levels of familiarity with WSIS, the session supported a more common understanding of the process and helped lay the groundwork for sustained collaboration beyond the event.

In total, 20 participants attended the dialogue meeting in person, including 14 women and 6 men. Following the session, ECNL and CADE committed to continuing support for the WSIS civil society coalition, sharing outcomes with partners, and facilitating ongoing engagement by civil society organisations throughout the WSIS+20 review process.
