Citizen Lab: Israeli spyware used against journalists, civil society activists

A new report from Citizen Lab entitled ‘Sweet QuaDreams- A First Look at Spyware Vendor QuaDream’s Exploits, Victims, and Customers’ highlights how journalists, civil society activists and dissidents are being spied on using software from Israeli surveillance company QuaDream Ltd.

It is reported that the software REIGN from QuaDream Ltd allows users to spy on another person’s phone, including recording calls, reading messages, and taking photos. The spyware took advantage of the invisible iCloud calendar invitations available on Apple iPhone and sent invites from the spyware’s operator to victims. Citizen Lab detected that the spyware was used from Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Ghana, Israel, Mexico, Romania, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, and Uzbekistan.
