USAID publishes Kenya Digital Ecosystem Country Assesment

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) published the Kenya Digital Ecosystem Country Assessment which was developed using the Digital Ecosystem Country Assessment (DECA) of the USAID’s Digital Strategy. The tool looks at how Kenya’s digital ecosystem can be improved to establish a more inclusive, safe, and enabling environment for pursuing development objectives and hence support the achievement of development goals. The report found that Kenya hosts a dynamic digital ecosystem and has been a longstanding leader in technology innovation across sub-Saharan Africa. The country’s significant strengths were liste as: (a) political interest in digital technology at national and county level, (b) relatively strong digital infrastructure, (c) strong private sector engagement in digital innovation, (d) active civil society, (e) untapped opportunities to strengthen and leverage data sharing. Yet, Kenya’s digital ecosystem still encounters challenges to inclusivity, safety, and productivity including: (a) barriers to effective access and use of digital technologies, (b) protection of individuals and organisations from digital harm, (c) adequately leveraging the digital ecosystem for inclusive economic growth.
