The United Nations Security Council has called for stronger protections against digital threats facing children affected by armed conflict, adopting Resolution 2832 (2026) unanimously.
Sponsored by Greece and supported by 93 co-sponsors, the resolution is the 15th Security Council resolution dedicated to children and armed conflict. It calls on UN Member States to strengthen protection measures at national and regional levels in response to violations and abuses committed, facilitated or amplified by digital technologies.
Digital tools can help children in conflict-affected areas access education, communicate and obtain information. However, they can also be used to facilitate exploitation, recruitment and other forms of harm. The resolution addresses the need to protect children from these risks while recognising the role digital technologies can play in their lives.
The decision places digital safety within the broader international effort to protect children during armed conflict, highlighting the importance of stronger safeguards and cooperation to address technology-related threats.
