ICANN adds reference rules for Javanese and Canadian Aboriginal scripts
ICANN has published new Second-Level Reference Label Generation Rules for the Javanese and Unified Canadian Aboriginal Syllabics scripts and updated seven existing sets of rules.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has published new Second-Level Reference Label Generation Rules (LGRs) for the Javanese and Unified Canadian Aboriginal Syllabics scripts.
The rules define how valid domain name labels are formed in different languages and scripts and identify possible variant labels. They are intended to make the review of Internationalized Domain Name tables more consistent and transparent, while also supporting registry operations.
ICANN developed the new rules in consultation with community working groups and with reference to relevant resources, including Root Zone Label Generation Rules where available. The rules were finalised following a public comment process.
ICANN also updated seven existing Second-Level Reference LGRs covering the Arabic script, Arabic language, Inuktitut language, Japanese language, Japanese script, Latin script, and the Latin script Full Variant Set.
The latest additions bring ICANN’s Second-Level Reference LGRs to 30 scripts and 32 languages. ICANN said further languages and scripts will be added as relevant community input becomes available.
