IGF opens call for Internet Governance Lab proposals
The Internet Governance Forum has invited stakeholders to submit practical proposals for its pilot Internet Governance Lab.
The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) has opened a call for governance proposals for its pilot Internet Governance Lab, to be held during IGF 2026 in Nairobi. The initiative will focus on how AI is affecting the internet’s architecture, operation, use, openness and governance.
Stakeholders are invited to submit practical proposals addressing specific governance challenges related to AI and the Internet. Up to three proposals will be selected for presentation and structured multistakeholder examination.
Unlike a traditional panel, the Internet Governance Lab will subject proposals to discussion and stress-testing, including their assumptions, feasibility and potential implications for an open, global and interoperable Internet. The format is not intended to negotiate outcomes or establish formal IGF positions, and participation does not constitute endorsement of the proposals.
The pilot will cover three thematic streams, with applicants required to identify a primary stream and optionally a secondary one. Initial proposals must not exceed 1,000 words and must follow the structure outlined in the call.
The deadline for submissions is 15 September 2026 at 23:59 UTC.
