European Commission considers European alternatives for recruitment platform
The European Commission is assessing whether to replace US cloud and AI technologies used in its digital recruitment platform with European alternatives, following concerns over data protection and the availability of new sovereign cloud services.
The European Commission is considering replacing the US cloud and AI technologies used in its upcoming Job Matching Application with European alternatives. The review follows concerns raised over the processing of candidates’ sensitive personal data and comes as the EU expands its sovereign cloud infrastructure.
According to the Commission, the platform is currently hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and uses Anthropic’s Claude model. However, a spokesperson confirmed that both components could be replaced. The Commission is examining the possibility of moving the platform to one of the four providers selected under its €180 million sovereign cloud framework: StackIT, OVHcloud, Scaleway or S3NS.
The Commission also plans to test European language models as potential replacements for Claude, with the spokesperson stating that a more sovereign solution could be adopted in the coming months.
