CENTR calls for wider access to company data under EU Inc proposal
The association of European country-code domain registries has called for public and automated access to EU Inc company records to support domain registration checks and online safety.
The Council of European National Top-Level Domain Registries, known as CENTR, has published a statement on the proposed EU Inc corporate legal framework.
The proposal would create a new type of company that could operate under a common EU legal structure. It would require certain company information, including the name, postal address and articles of association, to be published through national business registers.
CENTR called for information about EU Inc companies to be made openly and automatically accessible through the Business Registers Interconnection System and a planned central digital register.
It also recommended expanding the publicly available information to include company telephone numbers, email addresses and VAT numbers.
CENTR said access to this information would help domain registries and registrars verify the identity and contact details of companies registering domain names. Under the EU’s NIS2 Directive, these organisations must keep domain registration records accurate and complete.
The association noted that registries currently rely on business registers across different EU countries, but the availability and accessibility of company information varies considerably.
CENTR argues that more consistent access to official company records could improve the accuracy of domain registration data and support efforts to identify misuse of domain names. The statement does not propose that all domain registration data should be public. It focuses on access to official information about companies established under the proposed EU Inc framework.
