IGF 2026 preparatory process begins with open consultations and MAG meeting in Nairobi

The first Open Consultations and Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) Meeting for the Internet Governance Forum 2026 will take place from 24 to 26 June 2026 at the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) in Kenya and online.

The meeting marks the start of preparations for IGF 2026 and will bring together participants from across stakeholder groups and regions to discuss priorities, themes, and organisational arrangements for the annual forum.

The Open Consultations provide an opportunity for governments, civil society organisations, businesses, technical experts, academics, and other interested stakeholders to contribute ideas and recommendations for the IGF programme. These consultations are a key part of the forum’s multistakeholder model, allowing the wider community to help shape discussions before the annual meeting takes place.

The MAG, or Multistakeholder Advisory Group, is the body appointed by the UN Secretary-General to advise on the programme and schedule of the Internet Governance Forum. Its members represent governments, the private sector, civil society, academia, and the technical community, and are responsible for helping develop the forum’s agenda and ensuring balanced stakeholder participation.

The June meeting will be the first MAG gathering since the UN General Assembly’s WSIS+20 review process confirmed the Internet Governance Forum as a permanent platform for multistakeholder dialogue on internet governance and digital policy issues.

Registration is open for both in-person and online participation. The agenda for the meeting is expected to be published in the coming weeks.
