China warns ByteDance platforms over unlabeled AI-generated content

China’s internet regulator, the Cyberspace Administration of China, has issued warnings to several platforms owned by ByteDance over failures to properly label AI-generated content.

The affected services include CapCut, Catbox, and the Dreamina AI system, which offer tools for creating and editing digital media.

According to the regulator, inspections identified violations of existing rules on cybersecurity and generative AI. These rules require platforms to clearly indicate when content has been created or altered using AI, so users can distinguish it from human-generated material.

Authorities have ordered corrective measures, issued formal warnings, and taken disciplinary action against individuals responsible for compliance failures.
