Civil society urges EU AI Office to establish Advisory Forum under AI Act

A group of 35 organisations and researchers has called on the EU AI Office to move forward with establishing the Advisory Forum предусмотрed under the EU AI Act.

The request, coordinated by European Digital Rights (EDRi), focuses on the lack of a clear timeline for establishing the Forum, which is intended to advise EU institutions on the implementation of the AI Act.

The Advisory Forum is designed to include input from civil society, researchers, and groups representing people most affected by AI systems. Its role is to bring a broader range of perspectives into discussions on issues such as high-risk AI classification, prohibited uses, and safeguards for fundamental rights.

According to the signatories, the Forum has not yet been established, despite a call for expressions of interest closing in September 2025. In the meantime, discussions on AI regulation have continued through more limited channels, often involving institutional actors and industry stakeholders.

The organisations argue that this creates an imbalance in participation, particularly for groups without access to established policy networks in Brussels.

They are asking the AI Office to prioritise the creation of the Forum, provide transparency on the process and timeline, and ensure that civil society participation extends beyond a single advisory mechanism.

The issue relates to how stakeholder input is structured in the implementation phase of the AI Act, particularly as new policy discussions, including proposed amendments, continue to develop.
