EU Commission launches confidential whistle-blower tool for reporting AI Act violations
The tool is intended to help the EU identify risks early, strengthen enforcement, and support the safe deployment of artificial intelligence across the Union.
The European Commission has unveiled a new whistle-blower tool designed to strengthen enforcement of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act. The platform offers a secure and confidential way for individuals to report suspected violations directly to the EU AI Office, which serves as the Commission’s central hub for AI expertise and oversight. This development aims to support early detection of risks that could affect fundamental rights, public health, safety, or trust in emerging AI systems.
Reporting can be done in any official EU language and in multiple formats, making the tool accessible to a broad range of potential whistleblowers, from employees inside companies to external observers who encounter potential non-compliance. The system uses certified encryption to maintain the highest level of confidentiality. Users remain anonymous while still being able to receive follow-up questions and updates on the handling of their submission, thanks to a secure two-way communication channel.
The launch aligns with the broader objectives of the AI Act. The law seeks to promote innovation while ensuring that AI systems do not undermine democracy, human rights, or public welfare. Effective enforcement will depend on timely information about potential breaches. By establishing this reporting channel, the Commission aims to empower individuals to play an active role in ensuring the responsible development of AI throughout the European Union.
The tool and related guidance are accessible through the Commission’s online portal.
