European Commission ppens applications for AI Act Advisory Forum

On 17 July 2025, the European Commission opened a call for applications for stakeholders to join the Advisory Forum of the AI Act. The forum is designed to complement the work of the Scientific Panel by providing independent technical advice on the implementation of the AI regulation. Its role includes addressing challenges in standardisation and ensuring stakeholder input on key regulatory aspects.

The Advisory Forum will include representatives from civil society, academia, industry, SMEs, and start-ups. It aims to maintain balanced representation across commercial and non-commercial interests, regions, and gender. Permanent members will include key EU agencies such as the Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA), the EU Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA), and European standardisation bodies including CEN, CENELEC, and ETSI.

Members will serve two-year terms, renewable once. Participation is voluntary and unpaid, with members expected to engage in meetings, working groups, and provide written input. Interested organisations with a proven track record in AI-related fields are invited to apply by 14 September 2025. Application documents and terms of reference are available for download.

Why does it matter?

By participating in the forum, civil society organisations can ensure that fundamental rights, transparency, and public interest concerns are taken into account in the rollout of AI systems. Involving civil society helps balance commercial and technical perspectives with social, ethical, and human rights considerations. T

Moreover, the forum allows civil society to shape standards, guide implementation practices, and raise awareness about the societal consequences of AI.
