The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has relocated its upcoming ICANN84 Annual General Meeting from Muscat, Oman to Dublin, Ireland. Despite Oman being a safe and welcoming host, recent disruptions in regional airspace and resulting flight cancellations prompted the move. The event will still take place as scheduled from 25–30 October 2025.
ICANN cited growing concerns over travel reliability and looming logistical deadlines as the key reasons behind the relocation. With participants expected from over 150 countries, ensuring travel accessibility and operational certainty was critical. The decision aims to prevent a shift to a fully virtual format and instead safeguard a successful hybrid meeting.
ICANN expressed gratitude to the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Oman for their preparation efforts and affirmed its intent to hold a future Public Meeting in the country.
